Tony & Peter

Tony liked to stock up on microwavable food, candy and Mountain Dew – so he could stay up all night when visiting. On one overnighter he made an amazing discovery. What happens when you pick up and hang up the phone repeatedly? After a dozen or two you get a message to stop doing that followed by a loud blaring sound. But what if you do it 742 times? They disconnect your telephone service!

Peter woke me up about 6 am on a Saturday morning to ask if he could polish the furniture. He needed something to do after washing and ironing all my paper money.

Peter often had a mission when visiting for the weekend. This time it was to buy one gross (144) pencils from Office Max. To my surprise the pencils occupied him for the entire weekend.

Orange Cat by Tony Kapinos

Orange cat,
you are so orange
Orange! orange! orange!
Orange! orange! orange!

Orange cat,
why are you so orange?
Orange! orange! orange!
Orange! orange! orange!

[repeat indefinitely]

Before Peter came to visit for the weekend, he let me know that he wanted an Uncle Al kids meal that he saw advertised on TV. He was relentless.

Everywhere we went he was on the lookout for a Rax restaurant. Everything we did was merely filling time until Uncle Al. He was even worse than going on vacation with a carload of kids asking if we are there yet. Every waking moment was Uncle Al, Uncle Al, Uncle Al!

Finally, I caved in and drove directly to the nearest Rax some 20 miles away. He happily toted the tray to a table where he ate and completely ignored Uncle Al. Let there be peace on earth now that Peter has his Uncle Al!

On the way-out Peter dumped the tray into the open top garbage bin along with Uncle Al. As if I just witnessed a baby falling into swimming pool I proclaimed, “What about Uncle Al!!”

Peter nonchalantly said, “I’m tired of Uncle Al” as he went out the door.
