S&H Green Stamps Quick Saver Book, Mid-20th Century
Displayed here is an S&H Green Stamps Quick Saver Book, an emblem of a popular marketing program that flourished in the United States from the 1930s through the late 1980s. S&H Green Stamps were a form of trading stamps that were distributed as part of a rewards program by the Sperry & Hutchinson Company. Shoppers received stamps at the checkout counter of supermarkets, department stores, and gasoline stations, among other retailers. The stamps were then affixed into these saver books, which when filled, could be redeemed for a wide array of merchandise from a catalog. This book represents the culture of consumer loyalty programs of its time, predating the modern-day points and rewards systems. The cover art, depicting a happy family engaged in stamp collection, speaks to the program’s widespread appeal and its integration into the fabric of domestic life in the mid-20th century.
